James Stevens

Consultant

James is a strategic communications, advocacy, and policy specialist who helps organisations cut through complexity, shape public conversations, and manage political risks with confidence.

With over six years of experience across state and federal politics, including serving as a Senior Adviser to the Victorian Leader of the Opposition, James brings a sharp eye for opportunity and a steady hand in high-pressure situations.

He has provided advice to senior political leaders across a range of portfolios, including Industry, Energy, Emissions Reduction, Digital Transformation, and the Environment. This breadth of experience gives him a nuanced understanding of how policy and politics intersect, and how to position ideas for maximum impact.

James combines political insight, storytelling skills, and thorough research to support leaders navigating high-stakes challenges, developing reform proposals, or leading national advocacy initiatives. His approach is thoughtful, strategic, and grounded in real-world understanding.

Outside of government, James has worked for a national industry association and a full-service advertising agency. These roles sharpened his ability to translate complex issues into clear, compelling campaigns that resonate with diverse audiences.

He holds a Master of Business Administration (Technology) from the Australian Graduate School of Management at the University of New South Wales, along with dual Bachelor’s degrees in Business (Marketing) and Arts (Politics & History) from Monash University.
